The Venue – The Home of the Ryder Cup

Although the first formal Ryder cup competition was played in 1927 at the Worcester Country Club in Massachusetts, the previous year had seen a competition at Wentworth Golf club in England, the suggestion for which had come from Samuel Ryder, then Captain of Verulam Golf Club.  Ryder also provided the now-famous gold trophy at a dinner held at Verulam for the Great Britain team before they left for the 1927 match.

The challenging par 72 parkland course was designed by James Braid in 1905 and at 6429 yards from the competition tees, the course is not long. The course has a good drainage record and in summer the ball really does run on the fast well-manicured fairways. The best scores result from being straight and having a good short game rather than long hitting that doesn’t follow the fairway.

Buggies

Buggies are in short supply at Verulam. They will be block booked and available for hire through Sample Answers. Allocation will be determined by demand and a small premium will be charged in favour of the MRBA.

Sponsorship Opportunities

What better way is there for you to enhance your brand image within St Albans?  Sponsoring the Abbeyfield day brings your company before the movers and shakers of the industry and contributes to an important charity.  It also gives you the opportunity to network with like-minded people and enjoy a good day out.  Sponsorship puts your company logo on the website and enables you to have your literature and other promotional material available on the day. It costs just £300 for the assured publicity of the day, it also includes the cost of 1 entrance fee – value £90.

Alternatively, you can also donate to Abbeyfield by contributing a prize to the Prize Draw to be held at the evening dinner.  All proceeds of the prize draw are given directly to the charity.
